Risk of Dying / Mortality Test Over 50

Have you just turned 50 or older? Researchers at the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center developed a simple, yet accurate test capable of calculating ones chances of dying within four years.


Mortality Test

A team of researchers from the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center, led by geriatrics researcher Dr. Sei Lee, has recently published a simple test capable of assessing the odds of dying in the next four years for people 50 years of age or older.

According to Dr Lee, the test was intended to be a tool to be used both by doctors and families to "get a firmer sense for what the future may hold and to help plan health care accordingly".

This mortality test was published in the February 15, 2006 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association. The article is quite interesting, and it is available for free on the JAMA site.

Note: This test is designed for persons 50 years of age or older.
